Long-Term Care Facilities Push Lawmakers for Funding Help for Staffing

The long-term care industry is urging lawmakers in St. Paul to help with funding that will allow for improvement in staffing shortages.

Leading Age Minnesota President and CEO Kari Thurlow says severe staffing shortages continue to impact senior care at nursing homes and assisted living centers across the state.

Thurlow says low wages are the driving force behind the shortages followed by regulatory mandates and COVID fatigue. She says if we don’t have careers that are paying family-sustaining wages in senior care, our loved ones will ultimately pay the price.
