The annual Polar Plunge for Special Olympics marks a major milestone this month. The 10th anniversary plunge is scheduled for March 14th at Buffalo’s Sturges Park.
The Polar Plunge is one of the main fundraising events for the organization, and numerous plunges are held throughout the state each year.
Volunteers who have collected donations will take a plunge into the icy water of Buffalo Lake at Sturges Park, and the funds raised from pledges go to help Special Olympics Minnesota provide year-round training and services to thousands of athletes.
The Buffalo Plunge has raised some 565-thousand dollars in its 9-year-history. A goal of 65-thousand dollars in pledges has been set for next weekend’s plunge.
Check-in and registration for the March 14th event begins at 11 AM, with plunging beginning at 12 noon. The public is invited to cheer on the plungers and take part in other special events.
