The 2025 Boys Soccer State Tournament is here, and Delano has qualified for state. Below is a preview of the state tournament. The Teams:
#1 Seed: Blake Bears, 16-1-2, defeated BSM, 3-1 in 5AA finals.
State Appearance: 8th. State Champs in 2008, and 2018.
Player to watch: Oliver Brown, 15 goals and four assists.
Did you know: The Bears had seven games with four goals or more this season.
#2 Seed: Simley Spartans, 16-1-2, defeated Cretin DH, 1-0 in 3AA finals.
State Appearance: 2nd.
Player to watch: Elvis Hernandez Paz, 21 goals and 18 assists.
Did you know: This is the Spartans first state tournament appearance since 2009.
Elvis Hernandez Paz, above, is one of the top scorers in the state.
#3 Seed: New Ulm Eagles, 13-2-2, won section AA final, 2-1.
State Appearance: 1st.
Player to watch: Levi Johnson.
Did you know: Big turnaround, last year New Ulm lost in the first round of sections but rallied this year to reach state for the first time.
Levi Johnson, above, was the leading scorer this year for New Ulm.
#4 Seed: Northfield Trojans, 13-2-2, defeated Winona 2-1 in 1AA finals.
State Appearance: 3rd.
Player to watch: Josue Lazardo, 9 goals and 5 assists.
Did you know: Theo Monk had 0.22 goals against avg. and eleven shutouts in net for the Trojans this fall.
Josue Lazardo, above, has fourteen points this season for Northfield.
#5 Seed: Sartell Sabers, 12-6-1, defeated Tech in 8AA finals.
State Appearance: 4th.
Player to watch: Lucas McGee.
Did you know: Defeated AAA STMA 2-0 earlier in the season, showing they can compete with the best.
Sartell, above in blue, has reached new heights this season as the #5 seed in the tournament.
#Random Draw: Como Park, 13-5-1, defeated Mahtomedi, 1-0 in 4AA final.
State Appearance: 6th. 2013 state champs.
Player to watch: Blessed Htoo, thirteen goals and six assists.
Did you know: Como won the state championship in 2013; there has not been a St. Paul public school to win it since then.
#Random Draw: Delano Tigers, 10-3-5, defeated Orono, 1-0 in 6AA finals.
State Appearance: 1st.
Player to watch: Lincoln Hanson, nine goals and five assists.
Did you know: G, Johnathan McCabe has three shutouts in the last four games for Delano.
Delano, above, is making its first state tournament appearance in school history this week.
#Random Draw: Duluth Denfeld Hunters, 9-6-3, defeated Grand Rapids, 1-0 in 7AA finals.
State Appearance: 4th.
Player to watch: Lenny Jennings, thirteen goals and twelve assists.
Did you know: The Hunters started 1-5 but went 5-0-2 down the stretch.
