So Far so Good for MN DFL and GOP House Members Finally Back in Full Session

No major fireworks so far now that Republicans and Democrats are both at work together in the Minnesota House.

Under an agreement reached late last week, Republican Lisa Demuth will be House Speaker and Republicans will chair committees until the special election on March 11. If there’s a tie after that vote, co-chairs will lead committees.

Demuth said both parties appear to be ready to tackle the work ahead…

“I know Representative Hortman and I have both agreed that we need to get this done for the people of Minnesota on time. That is the intent that we have going forward that we will work for the people of Minnesota.”

Under terms of the agreement, Democrats will get their wish of having Representative Brad Tabke seated after his narrow election win. DFL Floor Leader Jamie Long…

“This agreement honors the voters of Shakopee and the voters on Minnesota who sent a tie to the Minnesota House. The co-governing agreement ensures that Representative Tabke is seated and just as importantly it prevents any party from unilaterally trying to remove a member in a future election contest.”

Minnesota lawmakers have some big tasks at hand this session, including crafting a new state budget.
