Minnesota’s largest fishing derby, and one of the oldest in the state takes place today on Maple Lake.
Thousands of fisherpersons are expected to descend onto the lake for the 51st Annual Maple Lake Ice Fishing Derby.
The bitterly cold temperatures experienced in late January and early February resulted in some of the best ice conditions in years for the event, and the derby will be a “full-on, drive-on” contest.
Hundreds of prizes will be won by fisherpersons of all ages, and the 51st largest northern pike registered will win an Ice Castle fish house.
Fishing will be from 12 noon to 3 PM, with the awards ceremony at 3:30 PM. Many kid-friendly events will run throughout the day. A Happy Hour in the tent with a DJ will run from 3 to 4 PM, followed by the after party from 5 to 8 PM.
Shuttle bus service will run to and from the lake approximately every 10 minutes. Listen for the KRWC Radio live broadcasts from the lake during the entirety of the derby on the air, and online at; www.krwc1360.com.
