Eight people were rescued from the Crow River in St. Michael Friday morning after their float tubes overturned.
Wright County Sheriff Sean Deringer reports that just before 10 AM on July 4th, the Wright County Communications Center received a 911 call indicating that multiple people were in danger after their floating tubes tipped near the 11000 block of 36th Circle Northeast in St. Michael.
The 911 caller told dispatchers that some of the individuals were hanging onto tree branches.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they located an adult male and a juvenile male hanging onto a tree branch, and were unable to swim to shore. The deputies learned that eight people in all, two adults and six juveniles had tipped their tubes and were last seen in the water floating downstream.
With the quick work of first responders, all eight individuals were either rescued, or were eventually able to make it to the shore on their own. No injuries were reported.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the St. Michael, Rogers, Hanover, Dayton and Maple Grove Fire Departments, the Rogers and Dayton Police Departments, the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, and Allina Ambulance.
Safety officials remind everyone that due to heavy rains in recent weeks, river and lake levels throughout our area are very high, and extra caution should be taken when considering water activity.
