Weather conditions look to be beautiful for Saturday’s 8th annual “Kites on Ice” event on Buffalo Lake.
Visitors will see incredible displays of giant show kites of every shape, size and color soaring over the lake and the Sturges Park area.
The Buffalo Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors the annual event, and Chamber President Sue Olmscheid says when conditions are right, it’s quite a show…
“What I think is unique about it, besides the fact that you have all these kites, is the understanding that the hobbyist that enjoys doing this is truly their passion. But how that color in the sky changes. You can be out there for the entire four-hour event and the sky never quite looks the same because the kiters are putting up a new kite where they can, or one’s coming down, you know…it’s just never the same.”
Other activities will include a pond hockey tournament, cornhole tournament, food trucks, a beer garden, sled dog rides, hot chocolate and treats. Plus, the downtown area merchants and restaurants will be open to welcome visitors. Olmscheid says however, the main event, as always, is the kites…
“It’s been a consistently evolving kind of event while keeping it kind of simple, because what you’re there for is to see the kites in the air.”
New this year, free shuttle buses will run to and from the event from the Bentfield Mills ballpark area near the Buffalo Airport.
The events run from 11 AM to 3 PM. There is no admission charge. The only cost will be for food and beverages. Visitors are encouraged to take plenty of pictures, and submit them at; www.buffalochamber.org.
