The winter of 2024-25 has already been a brutally cold one, and there’s a long way to go to spring.
Long stretches of cold weather are known to point out any weaknesses in home heating equipment. CenterPoint Energy Spokesperson Joshua Solis says it’s crucial to have properly running systems…
“I think one of the greatest things that people can do is make sure that their heating system is operating safely and efficiently. Getting your furnace checked annually and tuned up by a qualified technician.”
He says be especially careful if you’re using supplemental heating sources such as space heaters…
“Make sure we use it safely. It should have an automatic shut off and be kept at least three feet away from children, pets and any other items. And if you have a space heater that uses natural gas, propane or wood, make sure that you have that vented to the outside.”
Solis says Minnesotans should also remember that appliances such as stoves and ovens should not be used as supplemental heating devices.
