Minnesota Soybean President Encouraged by Tariff Suspension

The leader of a major commodity group in Minnesota says he’s encouraged that the tariffs imposed by the U-S on Mexico have been paused for 30 days.

Minnesota Soybean Growers Association president Darin Johnson says the Trump administration has shown it will use tariffs as a trade tool…

It seems like tariffs; it’s more of a lever that you can pull to start the negotiating process.”

Johnson says the U-S has a long history of trade in soybeans…

Last year, we exported 46 million metric tons of soybeans out, so it’s a huge market for us.”

Johnson says he’s hopeful the U-S will maintain the strong ag export markets it has enjoyed in the past.
