MDH Promotes Heart Health During American Heart Month

February is American Heart Month, and officials with the Minnesota Department of Health say most of us could do a much better job in managing our heart health.

Officials say only 40% of Minnesotans have a high or good heart health score. MDH Spokesperson James Peacock says a key to improvement is managing your blood pressure…

Have your blood pressure measured on a regular basis. You have a goal for getting it into a healthy range, which would be below 130 over 80.”

Peacock says the other supportive measures of the American Heart Association’s “Life’s Essential 8” are diet, physical activity, nicotine exposure, sleep health, body mass index or weight, cholesterol levels, and blood sugar levels.
