Big Lake Teen Identified as Victim of Fatal Motorcycle vs. Pickup Crash This Week

The State Patrol has now identified the victim of a fatal traffic crash early this week in Becker Township.

Officials say shortly after 11 PM Monday evening, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office was attempting to stop a motorcycle for a traffic violation when the cycle crashed into a pickup truck on eastbound Highway 10 near 165th Avenue.

Killed in the crash was the driver of the motorcycle, 18-year-old Deke Sibley of Big Lake. The driver of the pickup, 75-year-old Douglas Laramore of Minneapolis, sustained non-life threatening injuries, and was treated at the Monticello Hospital.

Highway 10 was reportedly closed for several hours following the crash. The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, the Becker Police and Fire Departments, the Big Lake Police Department and CentraCare Ambulance all assisted at the scene.

The Monticello Times reports that Deke Sibley was a senior at Monticello High School, and was set to graduate this spring. He reportedly had played on the varsity football and hockey teams.

Grief counseling specialists have been available this week at Monticello High School.
