BHS “Night Out for Music” Saturday Night

The Buffalo High School music department welcomes everyone to the 2025 “Night Out for Music” this Saturday evening at the Buffalo High School Performing Arts Center.

Joy Swearingen with the Buffalo Music Boosters is among the organizers of the event, which carries a theme this year of “New York, New York.”

She says the theme coordinates well with an upcoming trip that some of the students will be taking soon…

Every other year the concert groups have the opportunity to travel on a trip. This year it happens to be to New York City and the trip happens actually over spring break. And so the students will leave on a charter bus and travel overnight to New York City where they will be staying for a few nights and have the opportunity to attend multiple performances. One at Lincoln Center, they’ll see a show on Broadway. And then do a lot of neat sightseeing and they’ll also tour Radio City Music Hall.”

Swearingen says a number of the concert groups will perform in concert…

Chamber Strings 1 and 2, Jazz 1 and 2, and then BHS Singers and then Treble Singers. And they will also be doing a couple of numbers where they collaborate together.”

The event is a major fundraiser, and will feature a huge silent auction…

Many of the items on the silent auction are donated by local businesses and patrons. We also have lots of families create wonderful themed gift baskets, but I would say more importantly, a huge part of the silent auction is actually produced by the students themselves. So each of the ensembles participate in some way, including freshmen, varsity, and concert groups.”

Though there are some additional concerts before the end of the year, this will be the final “Night Out for Music” for longtime BHS Band Director Scott Rabehl, who is retiring at the end of the year.

Doors open for the “Night Out for Music” at 6:30 PM Saturday, with the concert beginning at 7:30 PM. Admission will be a free will donation.
