The Minnesota DNR is reminding residents of Wright County and several other Minnesota counties that spring burning restrictions are now in place…

Spring burning restrictions are in place in 15 counties in parts of central Minnesota, so it includes parts of the metro and then north and West of there, kind of over through Saint Cloud.”

DNR Wildfire Prevention Specialist Karen Harrison says spring is the most active time for wildfires in Minnesota, because of the sunny, warm and windy conditions and the effect they have on vegetation…

If you look outside, you know you’re often going to be seeing a lot of dead dry grasses. Those don’t have a lot of moisture in them, so they’re really apt to catching fire and then carrying that wildfire rapidly across the landscape.”

Burning restrictions are now in effect in Anoka, Benton, Chisago, Hennepin, Isanti, Kanabec, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Ramsey, Sherburne, Stearns, Todd, Washington and Wright County.

According to the DNR, people cause more than 90% of wildfires in Minnesota.
