MnDOT reminds motorists in the area that the first leg of a three-part construction project on Highway 12 in Wright County will get underway Sunday evening.
Crews will close Highway 12 in the community of Howard Lake between 10th Avenue and 7th Avenue, or Wright County Road 6, beginning at 7 PM through Monday morning at 7 AM.
The overnight work will continue through May 3rd with excavation beneath the road. Drivers will need to follow the signed detour along 10th Avenue, 7th Street, and 7th Avenue.
Beginning May 5th, Highway 12 will stay open with one lane in each direction from west of 13th Avenue to east of 6th Avenue. Narrow lanes, lane shifts, gravel surfaces and flaggers directing traffic should be expected. Shoulders and turn lanes will also be temporarily closed.
Pedestrians should take note that sidewalks will also be closed.
Crews will be working on a re-surfacing of Highway 12 with a new asphalt road surface, as well as new concrete curbs, gutters and entrances. Segments of sidewalks will also be re-constructed, and pedestrian crosswalk signal systems will be updated.
Officials say access to businesses and residences in Howard Lake will be maintained and will stay open, though use of alternate entrances or side streets, and sidewalk detours will be necessary from time to time.
Later in the season, work on Highway 12 is also slated for the communities of Waverly and Montrose.
