After a successful opening weekend, Minnesota DNR officials say the state now settles into the long summer season of fishing in the land of 10,000 lakes.
DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen says fishing has a significant impact on the state’s economy…
“Outdoor recreation is about an 11-billion-dollar industry. Fishing alone is about 4.4 billion dollars in Minnesota. When you think of the boat manufacturers, the tackle manufacturers, we have here — so yeah, when you are out on the water, remember the fun you are having, but also remember you are doing good for Minnesota’s economy.”
An estimated half-million fisherpersons enjoyed some very warm weather on Minnesota lakes for the annual fishing opener this past weekend.
