Saturday, May 31st.

Baseball.

Section 5AAA Winners Bracket Final.

#4 Princeton 8, #1 Monticello 4. Easton Peters went 3-4 with a double in the loss for Monti, as the Magic dropped down into the elimination bracket.

6AAA Winners Bracket.

#1 Delano 6, #3 Orono 4. The Tigers rallied to tie it in the eighth then walked it off in the ninth to advance to the Section finals.

Delano, above, celebrates a walk off home run to advance to the section finals.

5AA Elimination Bracket.

#2 Rockford 4, #9 Dassel-Cokato 2. Max Edwards struck out nine in the win as the defending champs from Rockford stayed alive with a win over their rivals from DC. The Chargers season came to an end with the loss. Jaxon Yanke hit a two run double for DC in the loss.

6AAAA Elimination Bracket.

#4 St. Louis Park 5, #3 Buffalo 2. The Bison season came to an end with the loss at Hopkins on Saturday afternoon.

Boys Volleyball.

Section 8A Semifinals.

#2 STMA 3, #3 Bemidji 1. The Knights dropped the first set 25-27, before rallying for the four-set win, 25-17, 25-23, and 25-21 to advance to the Section finals. Trey Cornillez had a match high 12 kills, while Nick Michels contributed 49 assists for STMA.

Tuesday, June 3rd.

Boys Volleyball.

Section 8A Final.

#1 Rogers 3, #2 STMA 2. The very first MSHSL sanctioned boys’ volleyball game for both these teams came against each other in early April. The Knights walked away with a 3-2 victory at STMA. This time these two same teams met at Rogers for a trip to the first ever Boys state volleyball tournament. The Knights jumped out to a 2-1 lead, but the home team Royals came back to win the final two sets and advance to state.

Girls Lacrosse.

Section 8A Semifinals.

#4 Elk River 14, #1 Buffalo 12. With the game tied at 12 going into the final period, the Elks scored early then held off the Bison to advance to the finals. It was the fourth straight year the Elks knocked the Bison out of the playoffs. Hattie Toussaint scored five goals and added an assist for the Bison.

#2 Moorhead 7, #3 STMA 6. Lake Parr stopped six shots as the Spuds won a low scoring game over the Knights to advance to the Section finals.

Boys Lacrosse.

Section 8A Semifinals.

#2 STMA 12, #3 Monticello 5. The Knights knocked off their rivals from Monti to advance to the Section finals where they will take on the #1 seeded Moorhead Spuds on Thursday night.

Baseball.

Section 5AA Elimination Bracket.

#4 Holy Family 4, #2 Rockford 3. The Fire knocked out the defending AA state champs with a tight win on Tuesday afternoon. Holy Family will now take on Glencoe Silver Lake, needing to win two to reach state.

Section 5AAA Elimination Bracket.

#1 Totino Grace 5, #2 Monticello 4. This was supposed to be the Section finals for the second straight year, but instead it was a game for survival. The game was tied at four going into the seventh before the Eagles scored a run and then held off Monti to advance to the Section finals and end the Magic’s season.

Section 8AAAA Winners Bracket Final.

#7 Moorhead 3, #2 STMA 0. Lincoln Rick was outstanding on the hill for the Knights, but STMA couldn’t get the bats going as Moorhead advanced to the Section final and STMA dropped down into the elimination bracket.

Wed, June 4th.

Baseball.

Section 8AAAA Elimination Game.

#1 STMA 4, Sartell 3. Taylon Seins went 3-3 at the plate with a double and scored the game winning run on a one out bases loaded RBI single that Tate Tollefson hit over the head of the left fielder advancing the Knights to the Section finals.

Thursday, June 5th.

Baseball.

Section 8AAAA Finals.

STMA needed to win two games on Thursday in Cold Spring to advance to state. In game one, C.J. Sploettstoesser hit a two run double off the wall to tie it, and James Fry followed with a single as the Knights rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the sixth to rally for the win. The Knights also got of to a great start in the second game on another Sploettstoesser double off the ivy, to give the Knights a 1-0 lead after one. After that though, the Spuds pulled away and won the game 4-2, to advance to state as the #7 seed in Section 8AAAA.

Section 6AAA Final.

#3 Orono 6, #1 Delano 1. The Spartans broke open a tight 2-1 game in the top of the seventh with the big blow being a three run double off the bat of Keenan Fransberg to lift the Spartans to the win, and force a final deciding game at Waconia on Friday.

Boys Lacrosse.

Section 8A Final.

#1 Moorhead 6, #2 STMA 3. In a low scoring affair the Spuds advanced to state with a win at home on Thursday night.
