Take a Kid Fishing Weekend in Minnesota

The time-honored Minnesota sport of fishing is being celebrated this weekend in the state.

Minnesota DNR Fisheries Specialist Rebecca Bullers says this is the annual “Take a Kid Fishing” weekend…

“And it’s when Minnesota residents who are 16 and older can take someone who is 15 and younger fishing for free. They still have to follow all of the rules and regulations, but it’s a great way to get families outside. You don’t need a boat or expensive equipment to fish. And all you really need is to find a local fishing pier. We have so many lakes and there are so many opportunities to just get out there with a kid, a rod and some bait, and it’s really easy to catch some fish.” )

Bullers says numerous “Take a Kid Fishing” events are planned at lakes and fishing areas around the state. One of the goals of Take a Kid Fishing Weekend is to get those youngsters “hooked” on the sport.
