June Dairy Month continues, and producers throughout the state and here in Wright County are taking pride in featuring one of the world’s most versatile, and valuable food products.
Charles Krause is a dairy producer in Buffalo, and serves as the Chair of the Midwest Dairy Board.
He says efficiency in dairy production is at an all-time high, thanks in part to new technology that helps producers fine tune their care for their herds…
“All of our cows have activity monitors,we have 420 animals on our farm that we know their movements around the farm, and their health. All of these things that weren’t available to us five years ago. It helps make the dairy farmer a better manager of the animals, it helps us let the cows do what they do best, and that’s eat and drink and make milk, and we can let them do their thing, while at the same time, taking care of them better than ever before.”
Krause says milk, and products that come from milk are showing up on the menu planners of many health-conscious consumers…
“The other thing that we’re seeing a big trend change in consumer habits is quality protein. So if you think of quality protein, milk has that and then if you can get condensed products, if you’re making cottage cheese or yogurt, you get some really good quality protein, energy dense, and it just really does great things for you. The more research that comes out, the happier it makes me to be a farmer and to be nourishing people with this great product 365 days a year.”
Wright County’s Dairy Princesses will continue to be busy throughout the month at various parades and other promotional event highlighting June Dairy Month.
