Big Lake Man Dies in Two-Vehicle Crash in Mille Lacs County Sunday

A Big Lake man died in a two-vehicle traffic crash late Sunday morning in Mille Lacs County.

The Minnesota State Patrol reports that just before 12 noon, a Chevy Trailblazer SUV, and a Honda pickup, collided head-on while traveling on Highway 169 in South Harbor Township.

Officials say that the Chevy SUV was southbound on Highway 169 when it crossed the center line, striking the Honda pickup that was northbound.

The Big Lake man who was driving the Chevy Trailblazer died at the scene. He has been identified as 69-year-old Donald Goerisch. Authorities say he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Honda pickup, 79-year-old Richard Lang of Excelsior sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by helicopter to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. A passenger in the pickup, 62-year-old Mary Lick, also of Excelsior, had non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth.

The Mille Lacs County Sheriff’s Office, Onamia Fire Department, Onamia Ambulance, and North Air and Lifelink Air assisted the State Patrol.
