Top storylines for the 2025 WC Area Girls and Boys Soccer season.

Kv(c)ant stop her!

The STMA girls’ soccer team went 14-5-1 last season and reached the state tournament for the second straight year before losing to Wayzata. This season the Knights lose almost all of their starters from last year, except for Emma Kvant. That’s a big deal, because Kvant might be the best players in the state! Last season Kvant scored 29 goals and added six assists for the Knights. The biggest goal of the season for Kvant came in the section final in overtime to defeat their biggest rivals from Buffalo to advance to state. The Knights might be inexperienced this season, but with Kvant they still are a threat to return to state.

Emma Kvant, above, started off this season like she finished last, scoring three goals in the Knights opening game victory over Elk River.

Bison Stampede.

The Buffalo Bison girls’ soccer team have had their finest seasons in school history their last two seasons, but came up just short in the Section finals, including a heartbreaking loss to STMA last season. Natalie Flynn led the Bison with twenty goals and eight assist, while Zia Wulff netted six goals and four assist. Emma Marzean stopped 91% of the shots she faced last season in the nets and allowed just 0.65 goals per game. The Bison have a lot of depth returning from last season but lose some top talent. With STMA very young this year, the Bison hope the third time will be the charm this fall.

Buffalo Boys can play too!

Last season the Buffalo boys’ soccer team went 11-4-4 and at one point was ranked in the top 10 in the state for the first time in school history. This season could be there best yet! The Bison return Sr. Gavin Johnson who led the Bison with 10 goals last season. Also returning for Buffalo is Sr, Hunter Scott, and Jr, Owen Seestrom, along with a very deep bench. The only question for the Bison is goaltending, and they should be just fine with Tanner Schrepfer who posted a 1.45 gaa in eight games last season. This could be the season the Bison breakthrough for their first state tournament appearance.

Hunter Scott, above, scored two goals in the Bison’s opening game shutout of Rocori on Thursday.

Expect more from Delano.

The Tigers boys’ soccer team had a very good season last year, going 11-3-3 and reaching the Section 6AA finals before losing to rival Orono, 4-2. This season could be even better! The Tigers return rising star Nikko Moore, only a sophomore who led the Tigers with twelve goals and eight assist last season. Delano also returns Jr, Jacob Barta, (7 goals, 4 assist), and Jr, Johnathan McCabe. For Delano they started to show their potential last season, and return Moore, Barta, McCabe and a young core that is hungry to contribute this season. The next few years at Delano are going to be a lot of fun in boys’ soccer, as they fight for a birth in state from the extremely tough Section 6AA.
