Waconia Man Dies in McLeod County Collision With Semi

A Waconia man died early Sunday morning when his car collided with a semi in McLeod County.

The State Patrol reports that just before 8 AM, a Honda Civic passenger car collided with a Peterbilt semi on Highway 212 at Tagus Avenue near Brownton.

Authorities say the Honda sedan was westbound on Highway 212, while the semi was eastbound when the crash occurred.

The driver of the Honda passenger car, 60-year-old Wade Halvorson of Waconia died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the semi, 39-year-old Jerod Jakel of Sacred Heart, was not injured. A 5-year-old passenger in the semi sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the Hutchinson Hospital. Two other passengers in the semi, 37-year-old Nicole Jakel of Sacred Heart, and another youngster, age 7, were not injured.

The McLeod County Sheriff’s Office, the Brownton Fire Department, and Allina Ambulance assisted at the scene.
