The new Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Malorie Thorson of Waverly’s butter sculpture is now completed and on display at the 2025 Minnesota State Fair.
Malorie was crowned the 72nd Princess Kay of the Milky Way August 20th, the night before the opening of the “Great Minnesota Get Together.”
She sat for the butter sculpture over two days on Thursday and Friday of last week.
Malorie’s mom, Colette Thorson (then Colette Diers), was a Princess Kay Finalist in 1996. Malorie says she’s been shadowing her mom on the farm as long as she can remember, and being crowned Princess Kay is the ultimate honor. She says she’s excited to be Minnesota’s representative for the industry that she lives for…
“I absolutely fell in love with the dairy industry at the very young age of three. There’s so many pictures of me in the parlor helping my mom milk cows because I absolutely love being able to contribute to the greater good and feeding the world. So, it’s been an amazing journey to represent the dairy community, and I’m just so excited to be able to do that for the rest of the year.”

Throughout the coming year, Malorie will make public appearances as Princess Kay to help connect consumers to Minnesota’s dairy farm families, and all the wholesome products that come from the milk those farms produce.
