ATV and UTV drivers need to keep safety in mind if they’re out and about this Labor Day weekend. Lisa Dugan is the Minnesota DNR Recreation Safety Outreach Coordinator…
“Make sure you’re protecting yourself with the right gear. Always wearing a helmet. Make sure you’re putting on a seat belt, and of course, always watch your speed and operate within your means. So if it’s getting darker out, make sure that you’re just staying at a speed that’s appropriate for the environment.”
Dugan says unfortunately there’s been an increase in UTV/ATV fatalities in recent years…
“This year is trending on that higher level again and you know with a lot of the season left, it really just kind of hits home that if you’re going to be out whether it’s private property on the trails, making sure that you’re doing it safely right now we have 11 OHV fatalities, which of course is far too many.”
The DNR’s website has a full list ATV/UTV regulations and tips on how to ride safely.
