The new Princess Kay of the Milky Way, Malorie Thorson of Waverly has been busy at the Minnesota State Fair every day since her crowning on August 20th.
Malorie told KRWC Radio News that being Princess Kay will carry some big responsibilities throughout the coming year…
“So my official title is to be the goodwill ambassador for the dairy farm families of Minnesota. My responsibilities will primarily be attending school visits when teachers request a visit, or we have just gone to schools before…telling little children, and also some middle-schoolers how dairy products are getting from farm to table. There will be other consumer events as well. As dairy farmers, we work with a lot of businesses in our area, but also around the state. So, going to those ag state organizations and talking to them and also thanking them for their work and dedication for helping dairy farmers like my family be able to continue on to the next generation.”
Malorie says her duties at the State Fair have prevented her from returning to class this week at South Dakota State University, but thankfully, the school has been accomodating for her unique circumstances in becoming Princess Kay…
“They make sure that I do put school as a priority as it is going to be my future career to be a dairy farmer, so they want to make sure that I’m able to gain as much knowledge from my college learning as possible. However, I do have a very supportive community in the dairy department at South Dakota State University. They’ve all sent their congrats, they’ve said if you need anything or if you need extensions on homework, and they’ll be able to advocate on my behalf when I’m officially not there during the first week of school.”
Malorie says she’s grateful for all the support and well wishes from everyone in Waverly and throughout Wright County.
You can hear the complete interview with the new Princess Kay on Friday’s “Spotlight Extra” at 10:35 AM, and again at 3:30 PM on KRWC Radio.
