Funeral Mass Today (Friday) in Delano for Longtime Resident, Educator and Volunteer, Frank Muckenhirn

Friends and family remember a longtime Delano resident and community volunteer at a funeral Mass today (Friday).

Frank Muckenhirn passed away September 4th at the age of 91.

Frank was a graduate of Delano High School in 1952. He then attended the Ellendale State Teacher’s College in Ellendale, North Dakota, graduating in 1957. Frank then served two years in the U-S Army, after which he accepted a teaching position in Hurdsfield, North Dakota, beginning a long career in education.

Frank met his future wife, Marlene, while in Hurdsfield. They were married in 1962.

Frank continued his career in education as a high school teacher, and later Superintendent in Hurdsfield, North Dakota. Later he was a Principal in Westby, Montana, and a Vo-Tech teacher in Jackson, Minnesota.

Frank and Marlene owned and operated a family restaurant for several years in Battle Creek, Iowa. The family returned to Delano in 1981, and Frank returned to education, teaching Small Business Management at the St. Paul Technical Vocational Institute until his retirement in 1995.

He was an avid sports fan, and participant in many sports, particularly baseball. Frank volunteered countless hours to help amateur baseball. He was inducted into the North Star League Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004.

Frank was also very active with the Delano Catholic Community, and served as a member of the Knights of Columbus. His other volunteer activities included the Delano American Legion Post #377, the Delano Athletic Club, and Meals on Wheels.

The funeral Mass for Frank Muckenhirn is scheduled for today (Friday) at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
