MN Cold Weather Rule Now in Effect, Heating Assistance Program Also Available

Minnesota’s Cold Weather Rule is now in effect. The rule protects residents of the state from having utilities shut off between October and April, provided you work out a payment plan with your utility provider.

Michael Schmitz with Department of Commerce says in addition to that protection, a lot of families utilize the state’s Energy Assistance Program as well…

“And we can help pay for your energy bills. Make sure that you don’t get disconnected, make sure you’re able to get a delivery of fuel oil, propane that kind of thing. You can have a family of our and earn up to 71 thousand dollars a year to quality for the program.”

Schmitz says the program served more than 126 thousand Minnesota households last heating season.
