Family and friends will remember a longtime Rockford business owner and community volunteer at funeral services today (Thursday).
Gary Chaffins passed away at his home on September 21st at the age of 78.
Gary was a veteran of the U-S Navy, where he served as an aviation mechanic. Following his service, he worked as an auto mechanic for Chrysler, and later owned Gary’s Auto Service in Rockford for some 30 years. Still later he worked as a small engine mechanic out of his home for many years.
He was a longtime member of the Rockford Ridge Riders Snowmobile Club for many years, and volunteered in grooming and maintaining trails, as well as teaching youth snowmobile safety training. Gary was also a longtime volunteer reserve deputy with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
A funeral service and life celebration for Gary Chaffins will be held today at the Our Father’s Lutheran Church of Rockford.
