The City of Buffalo’s Water Department has announced that it will be performing its annual fall fire hydrant flushing beginning Monday, October 6th, and running through October 17th.
Hydrant flushing is done in the spring and fall to ensure that hydrants are in good working order for fire protection. Flushing the hydrants also helps to remove mineral deposits that may accumulate in the water distribution system.
Residents are asked to use caution when approaching flushing operations, and to refrain from doing laundry between the hours of 5 AM to 7 PM. Residents are also encouraged to limit household water use as well as outside watering when flushing operations are happening in their neighborhood.
A progress map will be posted on the City of Buffalo website, and will be updated to show areas where hydrant flushing has been completed.
