Authorities have now identified the man who died Tuesday morning in a boating accident on the Mississippi River near Monticello. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office says the victim was 28-year-old Tyler Tasche of Monticello.
Tasche was one of three men who were fishing on the river nearby the Xcel Energy Power Plant around 10:30 Tuesday morning when their boat capsized. The victim was located unresponsive in the water, and was taken to shore by Xcel Energy staff where they were met by Wright County Deputies and other first responders. Life saving measures were attempted, but were not successful, and Tyler Tasche was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Meanwhile, the two other adult males aboard the boat, 66-year-old Mark Tasche, and 18-year-old Tristan Tasche, both from Monticello, were located on the shore of the river by Xcel Energy employees.
It’s unclear what happened to cause the boat to overturn in the water. It’s also unknown whether or not any of the fisherpersons was wearing a life jacket. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Xcel Energy staff, the Monticello Fire Department, the Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office, the Minnesota DNR, the Minnesota State Patrol, CentraCare and Life Link Air Ambulance.
