MSP Airport Busy With MEA Weekend Travelers

Officials at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport say they are ready for one of the busiest weeks of the year.

MSP spokesman Jeff Lea says travel ahead of the state’s MEA fall break from school is expected to peak on Thursday…

“We’ll see our peak volume of travelers. We’re expecting 52 thousand individuals coming through our checkpoints which puts us right up there at the same peak levels as a Thanksgiving or spring break type of activity.”

There has been speculation that the federal governmental shutdown could have an impact at MSP, but Lea says so far, the effects have been minimal…

“We’ve certainly heard stories at other airports where that’s not the case. And I say for anybody that is traveling, knowing sort of the environment of the government shutdown there’s always a possibility that they could see some impacts. If not at M-S-P, then at other airports where they travel.”

Officials say the terminals will likely be most crowded between 5 and 10 AM. Lea reminds travelers to arrive two hours before a domestic flight.
