After a few months of confusion from the CDC about COVID-19 recommendations, the Advisory Council on Immunization Practices has reached a consensus. University of Minnesota Professor Rebecca Wurtz says the council announced everyone over the age of six months should get the COVID vaccine…
“They added a slight caveat that you should do that after consulting with a healthcare provider…Many health physicians and pharmacists said there’s no real need to have any special counseling.”
Wurtz says vaccination is key, as COVID continues to kill people in the U.S. and can lead to long COVID, which has yet to be researched extensively. Professor Wurtz says with the federal government shutdown, influenza cases and vaccination rates haven’t seen national updates since September 20th…
“Without the data, you’re not exactly sure where health departments stand. That’s yet another really good reason to get the flu shot and the COVID shot now, cause we may not have high-quality data for weeks, months, who knows how long.”
Wurtz says however, that the Minnesota Department of Health is a great resource for in-state flu rates, with updates every Thursday morning.
