ACA Tax Credit Expiration Deadline Looming

Members of Congress are at home for the Christmas holiday break, the result of which will be the expiration of the federal Affordable Care Act tax credits. Officials say in Minnesota, nearly 20,000 residents will lose assistance for lower insurance premiums.

MNsure CEO Libby Caulum says the state simply doesn’t have the money to replace what would be lost federally…

“Our colleagues at other state agencies that work with health policies and our state legislators are all looking at policy options But I just want to be clear that there’s really no way for us to make up what the federal government is doing. It’s not possible with our limited resources in the state.”

The U-S House is expected to bring up the tax credits when they return the first week of January, but thousands of Minnesotans could already be paying higher premiums at that point.
