The Capitol Security Advisory Committee met Tuesday to discuss and vote on new recommendations from a third party assessment of the capitol complex.
Senate Republican Leader Mark Johnson says in addition to looking at security for the capitol building itself, he thinks it’s also important to look at the entire capitol complex…
“When you look at the complex and you’ve been there and you know what it’s like with all the tunnels and interconnected buildings, it is a full system so it’s good to do a system-wide review of that complex because there are a lot of entry points that are outside just the main building itself. There are some opportunities I think to increase safety within the capitol itself. This is a good opportunity to review that. But what those systems are that we will be using for that, we really have to scrutinize so we do not limit the people’s access.”
All eight recommendations from weapons screening to new technology and emergency preparedness passed the committee. It will now head to the full legislature for discussion during the next session starting next month.
