Nominations Open for Wright County Farm Family of the Year

The University of Minnesota Extension reminds residents that nominations are open for the 2026 Wright County Farm Family of the Year.

The Farm Family Recognition Program honors farm families from throughout the state for their contributions to the agriculture industry and their local communities. The program is supported and coordinated by the University of Minnesota Extension, the College of Food, Agricultural, and Natural Resource Sciences, and the College of Veterinary Medicine.

Each year, one family from each county in the state is recognized as their Farm Family of the Year. U of M Extension Agent Taylor Herbert has details on the requirements that a nominated family should meet…

They must be a food producer, actively involved in ag production. It doesn’t really matter what form of ag, it could be vegetables, it could be agri-forestry, it could be traditional row crops, it could be livestock…it doesn’t really matter. Then they also should be really involved in their community while demonstrating a commitment to enhancing and supporting agricultural production.”

Nominations from the public are reviewed by the Wright County Extension Committee’s Farm Family of the Year sub-committee, which is responsible for selecting the new Farm Family of the Year. This year’s nomination deadline is February 27th, 2026.
