A funeral Mass is planned for Tuesday in St. Michael for a lifelong resident of the community, and longtime businessman.
Joseph “Joe” Dehmer passed away January 26th at the age of 86.
Joe was a lifetime resident of the community, graduating from St. Michael Catholic School where he was a multi-sport athlete.
After high school, Joe served in the U-S Army, later attending St. Cloud State University. He returned home when his father became ill, and took over management of the family business, Dehmer’s Meats.
Joe and his wife, Patricia raised their family in St. Michael. He partnered with Bob Hageman in 1979 to establish J&B Meats. Later, he and a group of partners opened a successful beef processing plant in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota. In 2005, Joe’s son Tony and daughter-in-law, Amy, took over operation of the meat market in St. Michael, continuing with the family tradition.
Joe’s community service was unwavering. In addition to being a proud Army veteran, he also was a past volunteer fireman and former Fire Chief. He was a founding member of the St. Michael Lions, an active member of the Crow River Sportsman Club, and was a past mayor of the City of St. Michael.
Visitation will be held this evening (Monday) from 4 to 7 PM at the Peterson Chapel St. Michael-Albertville Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial for Joe Dehmer will be held Tuesday at 11 AM at the St. Michael Catholic Church.
