Winter Returns to Wright County

After a 10-day break from wintery conditions, including several days with temps in the 50s, winter has returned to the Wright County area along with most of Minnesota.

Most of northern Minnesota including the arrowhead region are buried in 18-plus inches of snow after a Wednesday blizzard. The snow spread farther south than originally predicted by the National Weather Service, due in large part to quickly dropping temperatures Wednesday morning.

Wright County and much of central and east central Minnesota including the Twin Cities area received anywhere from 4 to 6 inches-plus of heavy, wet snow that continued into Thursday morning. Numerous school districts in the area delayed the start of classes on Thursday. Check the KRWC website for continuing updates on school announcements.

Wednesday’s snow made the afternoon commute a nightmare for many drivers. There were numerous reports of spin-outs and vehicles in the ditch, including the report of a jack-knifed semi at the intersection of Highways 12 and 25 in Wright County around 4 PM. There were no reports of crashes with injuries in our immediate area as of Thursday morning.
