Lower MN Auto License Tab Fees, Please

If you own a car, it’s probably no surprise to you that Minnesota is one of the most expensive states for renewing license tabs.

It’s a topic that is getting some attention in the House Transportation Committee. Republican Patti Anderson from Dellwood says one her friends has a two year old car, and just got the bill for new tabs…

“Thirteen hundred dollars. Folks that is a rent payment. Thirteen hundred dollars just to renew your tab fees for a car that you need to get to work, for a car you need to go to the grocery store, to bring your kids to childcare. That makes no sense. Even a car that is 7, 8 years old, the tab fees are $3 to 400 dollars. That’s crazy. And at a time when everyone is struggling to make ends meet, to put food on the table, the fact that we have made driving unaffordable for people is wrong.”

Anderson is a member of the House Transportation Finance and Policy Committee, and is behind a bill that would lower these costs for drivers.
