Three people were injured, one critically in a head-on traffic crash Thursday morning in the community of Greenfield, just east of Rockford.
The State Patrol reports that just before 9 AM, a Toyota pickup was eastbound on Highway 55, while a Jeep Cherokee SUV was westbound. Officials say the Jeep crossed the double yellow line, colliding head-on with the pickup.
Injured in the crash was the driver of the Jeep SUV, 21-year-old Jair Araujo of Burnsville. He was transported to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale with non-life threatening injuries. A passenger in the SUV, who has not yet been identified was airlifted to North Memorial with life threatening injuries. Authorities say results of tests on the driver of the Jeep for possible impaired driving are pending.
Meanwhile, the driver of the Toyota pickup, 54-year-old Marvin Mealman of Stevensville, Michigan, was taken to North Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, the Medina and Corcoran Police Departments, MnDOT and North Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
