More impersonation-type scams have been reported across the state and here in Wright County. The new batch involves scam texts that claim to be from Driver and Vehicle Services, or DVS.
The new scams request payment for a variety of things including outstanding penalties, traffic tickets and more, and could come from entities that claim to be the Minnesota Department of Public Safety – DVS Division, the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles, and the Minnesota Department of Vehicle Administration, or DMV. Officials say contact may be made via text message, phone calls and email.
All of these entities confirm that they would never send a text, or make a call demanding money, or even saying that money is due.
Authorities say if you do receive a suspicious message, do not respond to the message or click any links, do not give or transfer money or any personal information. Anyone receiving a message they are sure is fraudulent should report it as junk or spam, and delete it.
If you think the message is real, contact the DVS through its website at; www.drive.mn.gov.
