Officials with the City of Buffalo laid out their plan for a major overhaul of the downtown infrastructure at a public open house this week.

Representatives from the city and from the city’s engineering firm, Bolton & Menk were on hand to meet with residents and business owners to discuss the Northeast Area Reconstruction Project.

Not only will streets in the construction area be completely re-done, all underground infrastructure will also be replaced, including the city water main and sanitary sewer, storm sewer, installation of Buffalo Fiber, and the city’s municipal fiber-optic internet service. Above ground work will include new sidewalks and parking configurations.

Construction on Phase 1 of the project, which will include sections of 1st Avenue Northeast, and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Streets Northeast is expected to begin in mid-April. While work will require various street closures and detours, officials say business access will be maintained throughout the construction season.

Information on the construction progress will be available on the City of Buffalo website as well as on the Bolton & Menk website.
