The City of Buffalo Water Department reminds residents that spring hydrant flushing will be underway this week and through April 17th.
Hydrant flushing is done in the spring and fall to ensure that hydrants are in working order for fire protection, and to remove mineral deposits that may accumulate in the water distribution system.
Residents and visitors are reminded to use caution when approaching hydrant flushing operations. Refrain from doing laundry between the hours of 5 AM to 7 PM, and be sure to check the color of your water prior to doing laundry. Discolored water that could temporarily result from hydrant flushing could stain clothes.
Residents are also asked to limit household water use when you see flushing operations in your neighborhood.
A progress map will be posted on the City of Buffalo website and updated daily.
