A late morning fire on Saturday in Monticello Township destroyed a barn and claimed some livestock.

The blaze at the Fresh Acres Farm off 72nd Street Northeast southeast of Monticello broke out sometime before 12 noon.

Family members reported on Facebook that the fire spread very quickly, and the barn was fully engulfed by the time Albertville and Monticello fire crews arrived on the scene. Firefighters were, however, able to keep the fire from spreading to a nearby pole shed where multiple tractors and other equipment were stored.

Some livestock and poultry were lost in the blaze, but a number of animals were able to be saved. Several neighbors reportedly helped to safely contain the animals.

No injuries to family members or firefighters were reported. The cause of the fire has not yet been released.

Despite the blaze, the owners say they plan to re-build, and hope to host their annual Fall Festival this year as planned.
