More information is now available regarding a deadly vehicle vs. pedestrian crash earlier this month in the community of Rockford.
The Wright County Sheriff’s Office reports that shortly before 2 PM on Sunday, May 3rd, deputies were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Ash Street and Elm Street, or County Road 33 Southeast, in the City of Rockford.
Officials say that upon arrival, deputies learned that two pedestrians, both from Rockford, had been walking on the sidewalk along the roadway when they both were struck by a vehicle.
One of the pedestrians, 55-year-old Laura Bachinski was trapped under the vehicle. Rockford Fire Department members and Wright County Deputies were able to free the woman and life saving measures were attempted, but ultimately were unsuccessful, and Bachinski was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other pedestrian, 56-year-old Renee Delong, suffered significant injuries to her lower extremities and was transported by ground ambulance to North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
Authorities say the driver in the vehicle involved was a juvenile female, age 15 from Cologne, Minnesota. The only passenger in that vehicle was the mother of the driver, age 36, also from Cologne. Officials say the driver and passenger were uninjured and were released from the scene.
The incident remains under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
