Along with all the major road construction going on throughout Wright County this summer, some additional preventative maintenance is planned on a number of county highways in the coming weeks.

The Wright County Highway Department has announced that pavement preservation is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 1st. Officials say the work will include approximately 23 miles of mill and overlay work, along with about 28 miles of pavement rejuvenation and sealcoating.

The mill and overlay process involves milling and removing a portion of the existing bituminous surface; paving new layers of bituminous mixtures; placing shouldering material along the edges of the roadway; and painting new pavement markings on the highways. The highways will remain open while the work is done. Traffic will be directed by flaggers near and through the work zones. Drivers should expect minor delays.

The tentative weekly schedule for mill and overlay work is as follows:

Week of June 1: CSAHs 30 and 17 and County Road 139

Week of June 8: CSAHs 19 and 34

Week of June 15: CSAH 2 and 39

Week of July 6: CSAH 39 in Monticello

The sealcoating process involves applying specialized protective coatings that replenish essential oils in the asphalt and seal out water, ultimately extending the life of the county’s highways.

Drivers should expect minor delays, temporary lane closures, and brief traffic shifts while this material is safely applied and allowed to cure. Pavement rejuvenation and sealcoating is expected to begin during the week of June 1st, and last up to two weeks.
