The Wright County Board and staff from the University of Minnesota Extension has named the 2026 Wright County Farm Family of the Year.
The Youngren Family Farm in the Waverly area was honored at the June 2nd meeting of the Wright County Board.
The Youngren Family Farm was established in 1941 when Theodore and Eunice Youngren purchased the farm outside Waverly. The next generation purchased the current dairy farm in 1968, which has grown to 150 Holstein cows and a cropping operation to feed the dairy cows as well as a herd of 40 butcher steers.
The two most recent generations of the farm – parents Scott and Kim Youngren and Dylan and Kennedy Youngren are keeping the family legacy alive. Dylan and Kennedy represent the fourth generation of the family who have farmed the same land – a hallmark of the Farm Family Recognition Program.
U of M Extension honors farm families from all Minnesota counties each year and the families are recognized at the state and local level. The Youngren family will be honored at this year’s Wright County Fair, and later in the summer at Farmfest in Redwood Falls.
The Family Farm Recognition Program has been in place in Minnesota since 1979.
