Major Highway 24, I-94 Project in Clearwater to Begin July 7th

Another major highway project is set to get underway early next month.

MnDOT will begin a two year improvement project to reconstruct the Highway 24 and I-94 interchange in Clearwater on Tuesday, July 7th.

Officials say the work will be in two stages. This summer and fall, crews will prepare the work zone along Highway 24 and I 94. Then in 2027, MnDOT will reconstruct the bridge, roadway and roundabout connections.

Overall, Highway 24 will remain open throughout the construction season with one lane in each direction. However, drivers should expect reduced speeds, lane shifts, and no shoulders along with changes to access as crews work through the work area. On I 94, work will require shoulder closures and periodic off peak lane closures.

The main highlights of the project include a new Highway 24 bridge over the freeway, reconstruction of Highway 24 in several areas along with two roundabouts at the westbound and eastbound freeway ramps, a teardrop-style roundabout at Highway 24 and County Road 145, as well as new road approaches at Ash Street and Nelson Drive. Improvements and extensions to trails and sidewalks are also planned.
