Wright-Hennepin Cooperative Electric Association recently awarded 38 thousand 500 dollars in scholarship money to 23 local students.
Scholarships are made possible with funding from unclaimed capital credits and contributions from diversified businesses under WH Holding, which provides the legal structure for the cooperative’s non-electric diversified businesses. The scholarships are made available without impacting electric service rates.
Wright-Hennepin provides one scholarship to 19 high schools in its electric service area to an outstanding student pursuing higher education. The scholarship winners are selected by the school themselves. The cooperative also offers one “at-large” scholarship for students who live within the Wright-Hennepin service area, but do not attend one of the local high schools.
Wright-Hennepin also awards the Edward R. Slebiska Memorial Lineworker Scholarship, the WH Security Scholarship, and the Basin Electric Scholarship.
The 23 students awarded this year’s scholarships were invited to a recent banquet at the cooperative’s Rockford headquarters.
Wright-Hennepin says it has awarded more than 874 thousand dollars to local students since the scholarship program began in 1988.
