Drowning Incident Under Investigation in Chanhassen

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office and the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating a drowning incident that happened on July 4th in Chanhassen.

Carver County Sheriff Jason Kamerud reports that at approximately 7:20 PM on Saturday, multiple 911 calls were received reporting that a person had gone underwater and did not resurface at Lake Ann Park.  The individual was reported to have been kayaking just outside of the designated beach area before entering the water.  The individual was not wearing a life jacket.

Despite a brief delay in rescue operations due to severe weather, the Carver County Dive Team located and recovered the body of an adult male, later identified as 36-year-old Earnest Corderia Claiborn of Eden Prairie.

The incident remains under investigation.  The Carver County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Chanhassen Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance Service, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

The Carver County Sheriff’s Office reminds everyone that wearing an approved life jacket is the simplest and most effective way to prevent drowning.
