The month of July has been very hot, and some Minnesotans have been struggling to afford to keep the air conditioning running during extreme heat.
Michael Schmitz is the Director of the Minnesota Office of Energy Assistance Director…
“One thing just to be aware of is there in Minnesota, you know, a lot of people think about the cold weather rule, which protects people from being disconnected during the winter. But there’s also a hot weather rule that prevents disconnection during things like extreme heat advisories.”
Schmitz also says that weatherizing your home can make a huge difference…
“Things like insulation, which could be in your walls or up in your attic, that kind of thing. But it can also mean things like air sealing. So you might have holes going up through your home for things like vents for your plumbing. And if those things are not sealed, a lot of the cool air can escape from that.”
