For the first time, Minnesota residents living in homeowner associations will have protections starting January 1st.
Republican Senator Eric Lucero of St. Michael authored the bill…
“The number one takeaway for homeowners is that this legislation works to balance the scales between residents and their boards slash property management companies. This increases the protections, increases the rights and again is filled with best practices that are going to make the lives of residents easier, going to allow HOA boards to act with greater confidence due to being required to having greater transparency and accountability.”
Lucero says the bill serves as like a Homeowners Bill of Rights and requires HOA’s to come clean with how they operate, and also puts a cap on fines that can be leveled against any homeowner by a property manager.
Parts of the bill took effect right after the last legislative session. The majority of provisions of the bill begin on January 1st, 2027.
